Empire / HP Text Game 'DROID' Refurbished
« on: June 02, 2010, 08:30:58 am »
The HP3000 Contributed Software Library text game 'DROID' was found on this machine to have an invalid set up to game files and was unplayable.

I have since refurbished the user-IDs and the game can now be played by logging into Telnet or VT to:  198.212.189.111

WARNING:  THE GAME ONLY WORKS CORRECTLY ON AN HP TERMINAL EMULATOR.  USING A DEC TERMINAL EMULATOR WILL LOOK MESSED UP.

The log on command is HELLO PLAYER.DROID.

Enter 'PLAY' to begin.  Enter Control-Y to abort.

There are FOUR DROIDS to choose from:

BOTTOM   CLINT   GUN45   and   MOVER

Players may create and modify their own DROIDS with the HP EDITOR if they log in as PLAYER01, PLAYER02, PLAYER03, etc.

The full instructions on how to use DROID are at:   http://198.212.189.111/other_games/DROID.txt

Tere you can run EDITOR or QUAD to create and modify your own DROID source code.

You can also COPY the four demo DROIDS from the SOURCE group to yours: BOTTOM, CLINT, GUN45 or MOVER.

Example:

COPY CLINT.SOURCE,myname

There are 3 sample DROID SOURCE files: MOVER, BOTTOM & CLINT.

To run from a PLAYER## logon, enter: RUN DROID.PUB.  Enter as many DROIDS as you can at the prompt.

To avoid display issues run DROID on an 80 character screen.

To protect your Droids, you can add a Password to your user-ID by typing PASSWORD.  There are 99 User-IDs.

Empire / Zero Down Time Backup Comes to HP Empireclassic
« on: March 14, 2008, 08:38:40 pm »
In exchange for the advertising statement on Empireclassic (website at 198.212.189.111) with ORBiT SOFTWARE HOLDING AG, the Empire on the HP3000 now has a free license for their ZERODOWNTIME(R) backup module!

Players will no longer be aborted during the backup routine and can continue to play DURING THE BACKUP with the assurance their games will be saved at the synchronization point and shall be fully recoverable in case of hardware failure.

Of course the best feature is that NOT being aborted part.  File integrity is assured even while game files are being accessed.

(Seriously, all it took was the one line statement at the top of the website. If you're aware what HP3000 software costs these days, that is a multi-thousand dollar value!)

Ahoy VBGamer,

I'm the site admin for hp3000.empireclassic.com to which Golem refers.

Would like a Game Development forum for my site called "Empire".

Is this doable?
