Off Topic / RPG World Online
June 16, 2005, 10:13:27 PM
RPG World Online (RPGWO)

Is a fun game that I have been playing for over four years and even host one the main worlds for it.  I can go on for a long time talking about all the features this game has. So give a try.   Here is a short summary listed below:

RPG World Online (RPGWO) is an online, persistent, massively multi-player(100) role playing game. It is written entirely in Visual Basic and uses API for graphics and Direct Sound, well, for sound. My motto or driving goal is to create a simulation type world with RPG gameplay, thus: "Where simulation meets gameplay!" It is a dynamic world. Maps can be changed and all items and such can be made and/or destroyed. An empty world in which players can build it the way they want!

The world will have a plot but it will be secondary. Most RPGs are combat oriented. I want it to even with other features. For example, a blacksmith and a swordsman of equal level playing for 1 hour should earn the same amount of experience.

Basic features
Combat
Player improvement and development based on skills system
Magic
Chat system (including offline messages)
Land ownership
Weather (rain, snow, drought, etc)
Water flows (like to lower elevations and floods too!)
Nature (plants and animals grow (and die!))
Trade skills (blacksmith, farm, mining, tinker, jeweler, etc)
Day/night effects with lighting
Dynamic plot (players affect outcome)
Events (like sacking a city with monsters!)

Freeware / What is this place?
June 16, 2005, 10:08:55 PM
In this forum you will find information and the latest freeware programs developed by VisualBasicZone.com and free to use!

Most of the software will be developed with C#, Visual Basic 6, or VB.net
Some may even include the source code.

I have two other sites in development one which will mainly focus on developing your own simple rpg sytle game, and another which will teach all sorts of topics on computers and programming.

Enjoy,

Just started another new project. It is a VB 1/2/3 binary to text converter.
It is going pretty well. I actually like how I organized this one better than Semi VB Decompiler.

This will be released for free and mainly going to help me with my next part of Semi VB Decompiler

Update! First beta edition released at

Semi VB Decompiler / Project Log
February 10, 2005, 12:30:48 PM
Decided to post a project log on Semi VB Decompiler so you can see what I am working on.

May 27, 2005 Removed the custom menu's was creating to many problems.  Other news working on custom control support right now I have the events figured out for 16 controls. Trying to create an easy system of adding new controls.

April 6, 2005  Been spending the last two days updating the menus and improving the interface a little bit.  Added icons to the menus and the menu's now look more like Office XP.

March 1, 2005 Released Version 0.06 Tons of upates. VB4 32bit support added. Fixed VB5 dlls. Shows ne file format in filereport.txt.   More .Net information shows basic metadata structures. Enjoy :)

February 23, Over the last couple days, have been working more on .Net disassembling.  Working on a basic IL disassembler.  For the next release Semi VB Decompiler will now show, .Net strutures such as the string heap, user string heap, blob heap, and guid heap.

February 15, been working on figuring out the vb4 structures. Hopefully soon I can have full vb4 support.

February 9/10, 2005 Been working on the NE file format (New Excutable).  Included it in the FileReport.txt and in the main treeview.   Trying to see what I can figure out, and see if I can support vb versions 1 to 4 16bit in the decompiler.

Semi VB Decompiler / Semi VB Decompiler
February 04, 2005, 12:40:56 PM
Current Version is at 0.05A Build 1.0.20

Right now and working on a basic IL dissembler such as ILDASM that comes with Visual Studio.net.  When that is complete going to see how much effort it would take to make a basic VB.net decompiler.  Purchased a book on MSIL and hope that will give me a better understanding on how it all works.

I am also thinking about making a nicer form/control editor such as the one that comes in Visual Basic, looking at a couple property grid controls to use for that.

For VB versions 1,2,3 I am looking into the NE file format but right now I have no plans to adding decompiling for those versions.

Works in Progress / Tile Engine/Map Editor
December 19, 2004, 07:23:36 PM
Start a new Project.
Working on basic Tile Engines and Map Editors.
For now there is going to be an Assembly, C++,  VB6 versions of the tile engine and map editor.

My goal is to try and keep all the functions though each version exactly the same and to allow people make simple games in the language of their choice.

Later on I may add a VB.net, C# version of the tile engine.
